Moving Truck Rental

There are some aspects of renting a truck for moving which are somewhat similar to the process of moving itself. For instance, you should never settle for one moving company, till you have thoroughly checked the offers made by other moving companies. Similarly, truck rental companies are large in numbers – so it should not be a problem doing your research on hiring a particular agency from where you will hire your vehicle. Remember, like moving, the cheapest rates need not always be the best rates for your move. There are many aspects of truck rental which are important for your journey not to mention the background and reputation of the rental agency. There are peak seasons for truck rentals, when the rates are higher and so is the demand. Days from June 15 to September 1 are considered to be peak as most people decide to move during these months. Also people tend to move towards the end or beginning of the month. So, if you plan your move during weeks which do not clash with the peak months when the demand is not as high, it is possible that you may avail of attractive discounts. But instead of the rental company coming up with discounted rates, it is wise to be proactive and ask about discounts your self.

After you have selected your truck rental agency, it is wise to book it as early as possible, especially if you are planning your move during peak season. While you are booking your truck, it is time to book any other tool which you may need also, like trailer or any towing equipment, etc. The rental agencies are very particular about the date when you will pick up the truck and when you are likely to return it. They are also keen to know the period of booking and the addresses of origin and destination. Some agencies also ask the type of goods that you will be moving. If you are not too sure about the details of your consignment, you could answer by saying that it is a 3-bedroom consignment, etc.

The day you are moving out with your rented truck, make sure to carry your valid drivers’ license and any major credit card. If you do not have auto rental insurance, you have to check with your existing credit card company or auto insurance company whether you and your rented vehicle are covered. If you are covered do not forget to carry the relevant documents as proof of your coverage. If you do not have auto rental insurance, you could check with the rental agency, as some agencies offer coverage through a small fee per day. Some agencies even offer coverage for total or limited loss of your property. In case you opt to buy insurance coverage from the rental agency, ask them all the relevant questions that crop up in your mind regarding the benefits which the policy contains and then choose the one policy which offers you optimum benefits. Any general insurance is adequate if you are not traveling far or your consignment does not contain too many valuable items. Additional coverage may not be necessary if your existing home insurance policy covers this move in a rented truck.

While picking up your rented truck, have a look at other moving equipment which these agencies give out on hire. There are several packing materials which you might need for packing your goods like a pro. All these tools can make the job of moving very simple.
