Self Moving

So you have decided to opt for self moving. Yes, it is simpler and far less expensive than hiring the services of a full service moving company. Here you simply have to assess the volume of goods which have to be shifted, contact a good and reputed truck rental company, pack and load your goods on to the truck and then drive off. If cross-country highways are your favorite places for hangouts, then long distance traveling by driving a heavy duty truck should be one of your long-cherished dreams.

It is possible that you have mastered the art of packing through the numerous packing tutorials available on the internet, but if you wish to drive a well-organized truck in which goods do not rattle and create a symphony while you are driving down the highway, then you need to put in some planning and organization behind loading that rented truck.

• Since presumably all your goods are packed well , make a list of similar sized boxes and if possible, arrange them in such a way that the heaviest boxes loaded first on to the truck. This is the beginning of an organized loading plan. If possible, keep the larger and heavier boxes separately, as they are going to be loaded first. These include refrigerators, washing machine, dish washer, etc which take two people to move. Move them against the far wall of the truck and keep them in an upright position. It is also a good idea to keep the balance inside the trick spare right, by loading similar weights on either side of the space. Furniture padding, available on rent, can be used for protecting the furniture corners as well as a convenient means to shift heavy furniture.

• The next items to be loaded on to the truck are long items like box springs, mattresses, head boards, sofas and table tops. These items should be placed against the walls of the trucks in an upright position which will save a lot of space. Other longer items like skis and poles can also be kept in a similar fashion. Carpets rolled and taped can be kept on the floor of the truck.

• The largest and heaviest boxes can be loaded next. Stack the boxes on top of the appliances and fill up the space between the boxes and under the tables, with smaller boxes.

• Smaller boxes should be kept of top of everything.

• The delicate items and fragile boxes should be kept right at the end. Ensure that these boxes do not shift around while the truck is in transit.

For a safe self-moving which is free from any body injury to yourself r your helpful friends, make sure that the truck can accommodate 10 to 15% more load than your goods loaded. A bigger space is always more desirable than running short of space.

Hire a few dollies which have a locking mechanism while rolling up your goods on to the truck. While doing sop, make sure that some one is there behind the dolly as it is pulling up, to prevent anything from slipping. Never overload the dolly. Make more trips rather than falling and injuring yourself.
